If I’m honest, I think I had forgotten about this stage of homeownership. The stage when you start making a few updates that spiral into a MILLION changes and different ways to drain your bank account. Pair that instinct to make design changes with the nesting stage of this pregnancy and I think the roomie deserves some credit for trying to manage all of the ideas/updates/online shopping I continue to come up with. 😂
If you follow me on Instagram, you hopefully saw the before and after of our upstairs hallway after it was painted—so much better from JUST paint! Paint, especially in main living areas, naturally inspires so many other changes in a home…but today I want to talk about one change we made that has me so inspired.
We changed out a ceiling fan in the nursery. When I say “we,” I mean the roomie and my father-in-law, but seeing it swapped out lit a fire in me that I have yet to put out. This is the one we ordered from Amazon and installed, by the way.
Fun Fact: I actually don’t care for ceiling fans. I grew up in a super old home without any and purchased an old home that also had none as an adult. I’ve always relied on oscillating fans you can move around, if need be, but a freshly painted ceiling and a beautiful new ceiling fan (NEVER thought I’d use that word to describe a fan) have proven to make such a difference and inspire a thousand other hardware/fixture updates in this house.
For instance, new matte black door knobs and hinges were ordered and installed for all of the top floor of our home. IT LOOKS AMAZING. 😍After installing just one room’s worth of hinges and knobs, we immediately ordered the same ones for the remaining two floors worth of doors in this house. We used these knobs for most of the doors in our house, these ones for a couple of doors we felt needed locks, and these pretty hinges on them all—all from Amazon.
I have been gazing at all of our remaining brass accents with disdain and a thousand ideas of how to modernize them. No drawer pull or fireplace grate is safe, people. Switching out light fixtures everywhere has been top of mind ever since the big fan swap, too!
And I’ll say this, every remaining ceiling fan in this house (there are 5 more) has been thoroughly observed and critiqued. HOW CAN THEY COMPARE to the beauty of the new one?! The one in our main living space, our family room, literally looks like it belongs in a timeshare in Hawaii, so….there’s room for improvement everywhere. 🙃
So, if you’re considering swapping out ceiling fans, I highly recommend doing so. Even just one–like us!–but BEWARE that the rest of your home may benefit from some other cosmetic and altogether wonderful updates, too. ☺️
