Our beautiful, determined little girl is ONE. Her mom and dad are in shock about how quickly another year has passed and super emotional…but her party was a BLAST, so let’s dish.
Inspired by a million campaign ads during this election cycle and the fact that Kit’s actual birthday fell on election day, we leaned into the idea and made her party theme “Kit for President.” Honestly, it was Ryan’s idea and I truly think it was one of his best, ever. The party was so fun—our girl was born to lead!
The Best Parts—other than our sweet girl
Kit’s little outfit, alone, was iconic. This little Amazon ensemble ended up looking better than I thought in person (although it runs super short). Paired the outfit with a red mock turtleneck, a bow, tights, my brother’s flag lapel pin, a campaign button, and some shoes my mom saved from the ‘90s and it killed. She was the perfect little candidate.
My favorite touches were a homemade sign, the ballots our family filled out describing why Kit would be a great president (🥲), and campaign buttons I designed on Canva. The buttons looked great on everyone and were so easy to make with little kits from Hobby Lobby. Kit’s big brother refused to take off his “sticker” until bedtime.
My in-laws came up with the idea to transform the kids’ learning tower into a presidential podium and it was absolutely the highlight of the party for good reason. So accurate and so funny to see our baby girl standing there in her little outfit at the podium!
The Decor
Red, white, and blue isn’t all that hard to come by, especially when you have a mom like mine who loves the Fourth of July. Big pleated flags, an actual flag*, a flag garland, and a basket full of mini flags all came right out of my mom’s storage room. And this balloon kit gave us more than enough balloons for a garland above the food and to spread throughout the house.
A roll of white butcher paper (this one, actually) that I bought for coloring with Wells and to use as wrapping paper ended up being the foundation of the party. It was the “runner” on the counter that showcased all the food, the wrapping that transformed a box of wipes into a ballot box, and the canvas for our homemade “Kit Lamoureux for President” yard sign. I will forever have that butcher paper on hand in case of emergencies, now.
The Food
We went stress-free and I would highly recommend all other parents do the same!!! Ryan ordered a Jimmy John sandwich platter that was delivered before the party. We threw the sandwiches on a platter and stuck American flag toothpicks in them (hilarious to us). We bought pre-made pasta salad and dumped it into a serving bowl, cut up a bunch of fresh fruit and scooped it all into individual cups, and Ryan made an amazing baked dip that we served with chips. We had some fun bottled red and blue beverages available, too.
For dessert, I ordered fabulous sugar cookies from Maggie Glisan. They were gorgeous and yummy—she nailed the assignment! I made Kit a tiny smash cake, myself, that she shockingly didn’t smash.
All in all, it was so wonderful to get our family together to celebrate a year of our Kit Claire. Seeing everyone wearing buttons with her name on them and loving on her was the best. Based on her first year of life and personality so far, she would make a really stellar president, pals. We hope we can count on your votes!! 🇺🇸
*Friends, the day after the party I learned that I hung the flag incorrectly at the party and I’m sad about it. Lesson learned! Blue stars should be on the left when hanging an American flag vertically. Sorry to anyone offended!
