If you saw any of my Instagram stories lately, you know that my week was full of babysitting gigs, headaches, and a migraine. Yippee! Luckily, I had only amazing kiddos to watch and feeling down is just another reason to snuggle with my pupper, Penny. 💕Feeling a little better today with Cinco de Mayo on the way!
Here are the 5 things on my heart this week:
1. Brené Brown’s Netflix Special
Even if you’re reading this feeling ON TOP OF THE WORLD today, you need Brené Brown’s new Netflix special ‘The Call to Courage’ in your life. It is the most emotionally compelling 76 minutes I’ve seen in some time. I was laughing aloud to myself throughout the entire thing and then also softly crying at parts of it. Brené is a fantastic speaker with a message that we all need to hear—we cannot be brave without opening ourselves up to failing. (Say it louder for the people in the back!!!) Put it on your Netflix watch list and prepare to be inspired.
2. Cinco de MayoFestivities
Lord knows I don’t need another excuse for a homemade margarita, but I’ll take one! Or at least an excuse for a big bowl of guacamole. If you’re looking for recipes for either, check out this blog post that showcases my uncle’s marg recipe and how I make my guac! Ripe avocados required. I also wanted to highlight this fun little décor piece used at a fiesta-themed birthday party I helped with earlier this year! If you’re doing anything special for Cinco de Mayo, these are super easy to put together. Just need a jar, skewers, paper, hot glue, and floral form (to hold the skewer in place)! I bet you could also get away with rocks/pebbles to hold it in place. Happy (almost) Cinco de Mayo!
3. Zillow App
My brother-in-law is officially moving to Des Moines!!!! I got so excited about apartments that I started thinking about homes. And now I have the Zillow app. And real estate listings are taking over my life. If you’re actually looking to buy a home (we’re not), the Zillow app is pretty nifty! You can do really specific searches, favorite homes, watch the listings as they change, and even keep your own property’s listing updated once you claim it. Happy house hunting!
4. Bread Baking Fail
I would love to be the gal that makes her own bread. I love baking and I have a family friend’s tried-and-true bread recipe! I was all set. Spent the bulk of a day trying to get yeast to rise and kneading dough to the perfect consistency. This is how it turned out. Should have made twice as many loaves and was so embarrassed/mad that I wasted so much of a day! But practice makes perfect. And showing the unfiltered, messy moments of my life is just as important as the styled moments and posts. Here’s my bread disaster…that I’m still munching on to save my pride.
5. Sunglasses
I have always hated sunglasses. My ears are uneven so they’re crooked on my face, they give me a headache from squeezing my head too tight, that dent on my nose when you take them off drives me crazy, etc. The reasons why are endless. However, my squinty lines are coming in hotter than ever, so I’m needing advice on everyday sunglasses for the first time in my life! What’s your favorite brand or store to get them from? Recommendations for my face shape? Below is the only pair I have and they were free. 🤷🏻♀️
Already giddy over the nice weather rolling in for the weekend! I’ve got two kiddos all weekend and am hoping we spend some serious time outside. Wishing the same to you and yours! 😘
