Throughout my entire life, today (Memorial Day Friday) has defined the beginning of summer with a trip to the lake. This year is different in some ways, but I’m still getting my lake fix and my family time in this weekend. 🙂 I hope you’ve got some summer kickoff time planned, too!
1. This Song
I can’t stop playing Hard Place by H.E.R. She performed at the Grammys (see below) and the performance built up so much that I had goosebumps. ❤️ I couldn’t get the chorus out of my head, so I downloaded it on Apple Music and forgot about it. Rediscovered it this week and have listened to nothing but this song since. Highly recommend!
2. These Target Finds
Last weekend was wild. We packed up my brother-in-law’s KC life and moved him into an apartment 15 minutes from us in Des Moines! We are so thrilled to have him so close to us now. He’s the best and let me go wild arranging, organizing, re-arranging, and picking up pieces to finish up his space last weekend. I grabbed this chunky knit rug from Target that looks fantastic in his industrial bachelor pad. In person, I think it reads darker and is sooooooo soft. 😍 I also picked up this walnut mirror I’m obsessed with. In an ideal world, it would be even larger since his ceilings are pretty high, but I still love it. It would look great on its side hung above a bed or couch, propped up in a bedroom corner on its stand, or leaning against a wall in a living room to help it feel more spacious (like it is currently doing in his apt).
3. Lunch Dates
As of Tuesday, I’m back with the two amazing little girls I nanny for three days a week. However, I plan to keep up with my lunch dates with friends! My friend Emily and I are on a schedule and get lunch together every other week. They are so good for my mental health. I love the dedicated time with her that’s already penciled in and that we always have so much to cover. She’s a super talented creative (graphic designer, photographer, social media guru) and an amazing mom and wife. I’m endlessly encouraged and inspired by her and consider our lunches such blessings in my life. Plus, we have so much fun! Get some regular lunch dates in your life. 💕 They are such a fun way to stay connected and grounded—especially if you’re a work-from-homer or parent/caretaker to littles.
4. Superstore
If you’ve never watched, you should try out NBC’s Superstore. It’s an easy show to love and watch with quick episodes all based around a store called Cloud 9. ☁️ The store is comparable to Walmart and the show hilariously highlights the lives of employees and occurrences on the job. I’m always laughing as I watch, but it’s chock-full of a lot of heart, too. I watch on Hulu, but it looks like NBC offers all four seasons of the show online, too! Unsure of what it requires to watch, though. Happy Binge Watching!
5. National Wine Day
This is a fake holiday worth celebrating! Tomorrow, May 25th, is the day. The roomie and I are big red wine fans–we even drank a glass for our “unity ceremony” during our wedding ceremony–but I would love to learn more about whites and rosés. No better time than when it’s trending on Instagram and a long holiday weekend. 😂
Enjoy the extended weekend. Nothing better than a little extra time away from work to breathe. Soak it up!
