What a wild week of paranoia and precaution. I’m choosing to entirely ignore all of that and focus on all the fun of moving, a baby on the way, and that fact that the days are stretching longer and sunnier lately. ☀️
Here are my five things this week!
1. Tell Me Everything
Finished this book this week! It was a welcome distraction throughout the move. I’ll admit that there was one scene of this book that rocked me to my very core for days, but it was overall a pretty good read. Excited to read something a little lighter with some romance next! 🤗
2. Bubba in Des Moines
Yesterday I asked for “sweet tea, in bulk” at Bubba and our waitress made sure I had plenty to sip on throughout our whole meal!! 😂 I’ll be spending the whole summer trying to learn to make it like theirs. Generally speaking, my favorite part of Bubba in downtown Des Moines is probably the décor and vibe of the place…not necessarily the menu (I’m not a huge fan of southern food). In terms of the cuisine, though, I’m obsessed with the crab cakes and the little cucumber/onion salad they come with. And as I mentioned before, the SWEET TEA IS UNREAL. Don’t skip it. It’s also worth noting that the past two times I’ve been there, both for lunch, my friend and I have had truly wonderful service—a rarity! I imagine the cocktails are pretty good, too, but haven’t had a chance to sample those (yay pregnancy) to give you a full review.
3. This Podcast Episode
Julia of Chris Loves Julia mentioned this podcast episode last week and I agree that it was a really fun listen. This particular episode, The Case of the Missing Hit, was wonderful! A guy in California gets a ‘90s song he thinks everyone knew stuck in his head and cannot find the track to play for his wife. The whole episode is an investigation of what song he’s humming, singing, and obsessing over and it’s a fun journey. I’m excited to explore more content from Reply All. Check out this episode in the meantime!
4. Allllllll the Sudoku
I’ve mentioned my love of Sudoku before, but my #1 craving during this pregnancy has been Sudoku. 😂😂😂 I’ve been cranking through physical Sudoku books and I’m obsessed with the fact that I don’t have to stare at my phone to challenge my brain! I’ve taken my Sudoku books with me everywhere, but I love sticking them in my purse and whipping them out in public places (like the doctor’s office). People are so surprised to see me with my pen and little Sudoku book while they scroll Instagram. HIGHLY recommend picking up a book, yourself!
5. The Bachelor
Wow. What a mess. I wish I had a better fifth item for you today, but realistically I spent too much time watching the ridiculous final episodes of this season this week. Moral of the story—Madison seems wonderful and I’m glad she and Peter have already broken up so she can find herself someone whose values align with hers. Poor, poor Hannah Ann. She wasn’t my favorite throughout the season, but she’s a person and didn’t deserve any of that. Our Pilot Pete made a lot of mistakes, but reality TV isn’t really real, so we can all move on with our lives while he hopefully has a stern talk with his (terrible) mother. I will say that my attitude toward this show really changed when I watched the first season or so of the show “Unreal” on Hulu—not that it’s rooted in reality, either, but it helped me get a grip on what it takes to make good TV.
Wishing you a great weekend whether you’re taking off on a spring break trip or happily isolated at home (like us). ☺️Happy Weekend!!
