I have been dreaming of a gorgeous master bedroom/suite to escape to lately. I’m not sure why, but I’ve got a whole Pinterest board devoted to them even though we live in an old home that definitely doesn’t have a master suite. Regardless, I’ve noticed a trend that I’m loving right now—four poster beds. The one in the image below is this one from Pottery Barn and a little more traditional than I’d normally choose.
I want to be really clear about the four poster beds that I’m loving—I do not love a bed with an actual canopy (like fabric), in any capacity. What I’m finding myself gravitating toward are the black four poster frames made from thin steel (it looks like). Check out this Amazon frame that’s under $200. I like the minimalist vibe of this style and am finding inspiration photos that are mostly pairing them with white walls.
How I’d Style It:
1. With a great paint job.
Listen, my home has very few white walls, but I’m not against them. I think these beds look stunning paired with them. However, I also think these thin black bed frames would look great with muted olive green or dusty blue walls like the paint swatches below. They’re both Magnolia Home paint colors—not my intention, but Lord knows Joanna Gaines knows what she’s doing.
2. In a room with high ceilings.
A bed frame like this requires decently high ceilings, I know, but wow does this style stun in a room with a vaulted ceiling. A four poster bed frame in a pretty light wood tone or black steel (either way, clean lines required) makes the bed feel like the focal point in what can feel like an overwhelmingly tall space.
3. With beautifully wide and substantial wood nightstands.
I love the idea of a big, beautiful nightstand that’s more like a mini dresser. If you have the space, go for it!!! Use that extra space and splurge on the nightstands with outlets in the top drawer to stow away your electronics as they charge. You can see an option for a smaller but pretty wood nightstand that’s just as lovely! Wood paired with the black is a really great look, in my opinion.
4. With a giant, fluffy rug underneath.
I think a fluffy rug that felt great sinking your feet into every morning would be such a great contrast to the cool steel of the frames we’ve been talking about. I love modern shapes and lines, but spaces in a home still need to feel cozy and lived in. I think an amazing rug could really help a steel four poster frame.
Honorable Mentions
These three styles aren’t black or steel, but would all look incredible in the right space. The first is the most expensive and my favorite (sigh). Enjoy!
So, what do YOU think? Do you like a four poster bed frame in a fresh style like the ones I’m talking about? Let me know in the comments! I couldn’t fall asleep last night and laid in bed imagining what it would feel like to be in one, so…I’m into it. 🤷🏻♀️
