In my adult life, I’ve hardly ever had a Valentine. And when I’ve had one, I opt to skip roses, fancy dinners, and gifts because the holiday has sky high expectations! That’s intimidating. You know what’s not intimidating? Celebrating the day of love with your girlfriends!
Galentine’s Day parties can be low pressure and painted in an oh-so-pretty shade of blush. Text your closest gals now and get a date on the calendar so you can put the fun ideas that impressed at my own party to work come February.
Co-Host.
I try very hard to make any event I throw as affordable (and beautiful) as possible, but it’s not free to host and my entertaining budget isn’t anything to write home about. Pick a bestie with mutual friends and share the expenses! It was so fun to host this Galentine’s Day party with one of my best friends, Chloe. Brainstorming, setup, and food/drink prep were 10x more fun together. Also, it gives you a chance to get creative in new spaces—like Chloe’s fabulous apartment with tons of natural light.
Think Feminine.
Realistically, the roomie (and my friends’ husbands) would complain if made to sit on the floor for an extended period of time. Girls, naturally, are better at pretzel legs! Take the opportunity to throw a party that’s lower to the ground and takes advantage of your accent pillow addiction. We had almost all of the throw pillows already between Chloe and I. And our table was crafted from two 8-foot heavy-duty plastic folding tables and eight 5-gallon buckets, both of which you can grab at Home Depot…or borrow from your parents like I did.
Choose a Color.
Between blush, hot pink, purple, lavender, and bright red, there are plenty of girly color palettes to choose from. We picked blush with faux fur and gold accents. Picking food in our color palette was actually a fun challenge. We ended up serving pink macaroons, heart-shaped sugar cookies, assorted candies, tiny ham sandwiches, and little charcuterie platters that all coordinated to an extent. To feel fancy, we made sure our drinks were Prosecco-based. Raspberry lemonade and grapefruit juice were so yummy with the bubbly!
Give Guests Something To Do.
When snacking, sipping, and catching up, we pulled out Q Dates. It was fun to answer the questions couples are supposed to answer with friends. Later on, we played What Do You Meme? A Galentine’s Party would also be a fun time to decorate sugar cookies, put out a bunch of craft supplies for making homemade valentines, or play trivia with a playlist of love songs. Consider your crowd and pick an activity!
Pay Attention to Details.
- Chloe came up with a great playlist (Stream it here!) to keep the vibe upbeat and love-themed.
- A faux fur rug anchored our food/drink table and extended the texture of the runner and pillows across the room.
- Plastic tables were easily transformed with some wrapping paper, fresh greenery, and candlelight.
- Stemless champagne flutes, rosy antique dishes, and my mom’s antique cake stands helped class up the party.
- Lastly, don’t forget to have water readily available!
