The Fourth of July is easily my favorite holiday. It’s relatively pressure-free and most people get the day off for it! I love the colors, the fireworks (like official shows, not your neighbor trying his hand at launching some), BBQ food, and the time with family and friends. Personally, I love this holiday when celebrated at the lake the most.
In anticipation of my favorite day, I put together a super easy little tablescape to inspire your holiday plans! For once in my life, I used mostly items I already had and only needed to buy Coca-Cola, sparklers, and fresh flowers! That means it’s attainable for anyone. ☺️
5 tips for your own celebratory table for our nation’s birthday:
Don’t limit your color scheme, but pick one main color.
As you know, that’s one of the three holiday colors— and most likely the one you have the most of already! All of ours dishes are white, so I broke out some of my favorite pieces to be the base of our holiday table. I also pulled out our light blue and navy outdoor dishes, which really helped build out my tablescape. I loved that I didn’t force myself to stick to one of the two shades of blue. BLUE itself was my main color, so I ran with it.
Get fresh flowers.
If you want your table to look amazing, fresh flowers are the ticket almost every time. I know little about the floral world, but in my opinion any flowers that are artificially colored hurt more than help (think of all the bouquets you got at dance recitals). Go white for the cleanest, fresh look! When searching for flowers to put these little arrangements together, I knew I wanted hydrangeas but also was drawn toward classic white daisies and even white carnations.
Bring color to your table through food and drinks.
Go wild with food coloring if you’ve got the energy, but know that you certainly don’t have to. Bring on all the beautifully red strawberries, the watermelon in every form, the pretty red Coca-Cola bottles, and, heck, even the ketchup bottles. Also, there’s blue (or red) in so many beer labels. 🇺🇸 No need to go crazy with decorations or fancy food when so much that’s already out there fits the color scheme.
Make ordinary things look pretty.
Please note the water glasses with strawberries stuck on the rim. Water is as cheap as it gets, people! Watermelon is cheap and easy, too, but slice it nicely or use cookie cutters to cut out shapes from it and it’s suddenly fancy! Wrap a little strip of cute paper around hot dogs and tie it with a string—suddenly hot dogs are showstoppers, too. You don’t have to think outside the box so much as rethink your box. 🤗
Have a birthday cake.
This is obviously something I’m all about since I’m addicted to sugar, but this is a fun way to make your holiday more special and anchor your festive décor! Even better, sing ‘happy birthday’ together! This would be way too fun with kiddos. My recommendation is to use a couple boxes of cake mix and make a basic cake like mine with just white frosting. Dump strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, whatever floats your boat on top to make it a feature piece.
Buy sparklers and use them.
These were as close to fireworks we got growing up and I still love them. They don’t scare me and are so cheap and fun play around with. Also, the photo ops are endless with sparklers! Everyone looks prettier and more festive with the warm glow of a sparkler in their Insta shot. Buy a bunch and stick them in a cute mason jar for your guests to go wild.
Well, that’s all from me. I’ve got to go stick little American flags around our yard to make sure our neighbors know we’re festive. Hope you celebrate America’s birthday like it’s your own this year! 😉
