Scent in a home is so important. You’ve seen me recommend plenty of scents here before, but tonight I thought I’d share the lineup of White Barn candles we’re burning behind our red door recently.
To start, I really love Anthropologie candles, but struggle with the price of them. I am absolutely not giving up on them, but I thought I’d talk about White Barn tonight. I first fell in love with the three-wick candles from Bath & Body Works (same thing as White Barn) in college when every room I frequented in the sorority house had a different “flavor” burning. 😂
Needless to say, I’m into this brand and these big candles that burn for some time. The bottom of the candles say they burn for 25 to 45 hours, which I think is a hilariously vast range, but they burn for long enough that I cheerfully keep buying them! The White Barn candles regularly go on sale and that’s when I’d recommend stocking up. ☺️
Scents We’re Loving Right Now
If you have any scents, you’ll pick up one of these candles for your home! (I’m embarrassed by how proud I am of that sentence. 😂)
Eucalyptus Mint—Never gets old. I talk about this scent in detail in this post, but it reminds me of a spa and is perfect for you if you like essential oils.
Pure White Cotton—Wonderfully clean scent that we both love. It has notes of cotton, vanilla, gardenia petals, and pear, and I swear it makes your house feel cleaner.
Suntan—Coconutty, sunny beach vibes. I originally bought this scent in college because my roommate hated floral scents! I loved it then and still love it now. It smells like sunscreen–in the best way–and transports you immediately to your summer brain.
Island Reef—I originally bought this candle to remind us of our trip to Hawaii, so it’s a perfumery, tropical scent! Notes of fresh island citrus, crisp eucalyptus, and sparkling waves (whatever that is).
Paris Café—I’ve talked about this scent before (see here), but it’s coffee shop goodness that’s so spot on that I can sometimes trick myself into being more productive. My best work is done in coffee shops, I swear!
Fiji White Sands—Summery, fresh, and a little tropical. The roomie claimed this candle reminded him of Hawaii, but I think it has more a fresh, sandalwood vibe to me. Excited to get it burning around here all summer!
Pro Tips
I like to buy the more simply packaged, colored glass White Barn candles. If you’ve ever walked into Bath & Body Works, you’ve seen huge tables full of these candles with fun, graphic labels. Those stand out too much from my décor, so I usually go for the more simple ones. However, every one of those flashy, seasonal candles also comes in a more simple White Barn glass jar like the ones I buy. Be sure to ask the store associates as they often have a less fancy name!
Every single three-wick candle in the store lists the fragrance notes on the bottom. As you find scents you’re drawn to at the store, make sure to check the bottom labels to see if there’s a consistent fragrance you’re drawn to. I find I’m regularly drawn to eucalyptus!
To be safe, I always burn my candles sitting on top of their own lids (see picture above). This way, I can guarantee they won’t get too hot and burn or melt whatever surface is underneath them.
When you’re done burning the candle for the night but want the scent to linger, place the lid gently on top of the candle while still burning. I say ‘place’ intentionally as I’ve learned my lesson with sticking the lids back on full force! They’ll seal up so tightly if stuck down firmly that you may injure yourself trying to get the lid off later (or at least I have).
Hope your home is filled with pretty candlelight and relaxing scents tonight. Thanks for reading!
